Arizona Sen. Steve Kaiser is resigning from the state Senate.
AZ Family first reported Kaiser’s pending registration, which will take effect at the end of the week.
The Phoenix Republican spent this legislative session spearheading measures to overhaul local zoning laws in an effort to jumpstart construction of smaller, more affordable housing. Those efforts were ultimately unsuccessful, as the legislation failed to garner enough Republican votes to pass.
Kaiser told the Arizona Capitol Times the failure of his housing bills did not factor into his decision to resign. Instead, he described his resignation as an opportunity to “family first” and focus on a 501(c)(4) he runs to support the Republican majority at the Arizona Legislature.
