Thursday, June 15, marks the first day of monsoon season in Arizona. But those looking forward to the rain may have to wait.
The Climate Prediction Center shares long-term projections that look dry.
Matt Salerno is a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Phoenix.
“We’re getting a little bit of a slower start to the normal circulation pattern that we would see when we have a switch from a west wind to more of an easterly wind, which drives the monsoon," Salerno said.
Salerno also says — despite the dry forecast — to remain alert for possible floods, if and when it does rain. He also says there are other hazards to look out for like extreme heat.
Long-term predictions show Arizona will likely see above-average heat starting in July.
