Arizona continues to see historically low unemployment rates

The state’s unemployment rate continues to remain at historic lows.

The latest numbers from the Office of Economic Opportunity show the seasonally adjusted rate for May was at 3.4%

No figure has been lower since the state started using its current method of calculating the unemployment rate in the 1970s.

The report comes days after state lawmakers defeated a measure from a GOP senator that would have cut the length of time jobless Arizonans could collect unemployment benefits.

Republican Rep. David Cook voted against the measure saying rural Arizonans don’t have the same opportunities to bounce back as those in Phoenix, for example.
