Monday is Juneteenth, which commemorates the end of slavery in the U.S.
The day marks the time when enslaved Black people in Galveston, Texas, finally learned of their freedom; it came more than two years after President Abraham Lincoln had signed the Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth became an official federal holiday in 2021; Arizona recognized it as a state holiday in 2016.
Warren Stewart Jr., a pastor and activist, among other things, joined The Show to talk more about the day and its meaning going forward.
