The Arizona House and Senate are taking different approaches to the issue of the per diem payments lawmakers are collecting during their several-week break. They’re currently scheduled to reconvene at the end of July.
Senate Republican leadership has reminded its members that they have the choice to opt out of the per diems, while House GOP leaders say if legislators forgo the payments now, they’ll also not get them for the rest of their terms.
At this point in the session, Maricopa County lawmakers get $10 a day, while those who live outside the county get $119 per day, even during this time when the Legislature is not meeting regularly.
Mary Jo Pitzl of the Arizona Republic joined The Show to talk more about it.
