For the first time, the Human Rights Campaign declared a state of emergency for all LGBTQ people living in the United States.
The declaration comes on the heels of dozens of ant-trans bills nationwide.
Eireanne Russ is with Southern Arizona Senior Pride, an LGBTQ advocacy group in Tucson.
Russ is a nonbinary, trans woman who is frustrated and frightened by the spike in anti-trans bills legislation in Arizona and around the U.S.
"I know a number of people in my age group that are looking at the resources that they have, and deciding whether it's better off for them to continue to retirement in other countries that are much more supportive, much more accepting," she said.
Russ has been living in Arizona for 30 years and considers it home.
"And I transitioned in Tucson. And the only reason I've ever considered leaving Arizona is the amount of legislation that keeps coming up to try and persecute me and people like me," said Russ.
