Stage 1 fire restrictions settle over northern Arizona ahead of July 4

Coconino National Forest and the surrounding area including Flagstaff will enter Stage 1 fire restrictions ahead of the Fourth of July.

The restrictions start at 8 a.m. Thursday morning across the entire Coconino but also the Williams district of the Kaibab national Forest. Flagstaff and Coconino County will also enter restrictions at that time.

Flagstaff’s restrictions include a ban on consumer grade fireworks in the city, and prohibits charcoal and wood barbecues at city parks.

The county and the Forest Service allow open flame cooking only at developed recreation sites.

Strong winds and dry weather are anticipated in northern Arizona for most of this week.
