Kate Gallego elected chair of Maricopa Association of Governments Regional Council

Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego has been elected as chair of the Maricopa Association of Governments Regional Council, the association’s governing and policy making body.

“Our most pressing priority is to give voters the power to shape their transportation future through the extension of Proposition 400. The regional strategic transportation infrastructure investment plan is critical to propelling our region forward and to our continued prosperity,” Gallego said in a press release.

MAG cannot pass the proposition, but can negotiate with the Legislature and launch voter initiatives.

Chandler Mayor Kevin Hartke was elected as vice chair.

All newly elected officers serve for one year.
