Phoenix hiking trails closed during the day amid heat advisory

The city of Phoenix announced the closure of hiking trails on Camelback Mountain and Piestewa Peak trails starting Saturday through July 4.

Between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., hikers are prohibited on the trails because the National Weather Service forecast an excessive heat system.

Temperatures are expected to top 110 degrees in the coming days.

Officials also discourage hiking at all city of Phoenix trails. Over 200 hikers are rescued annually from hiking trails around Phoenix.
