A lack of affordable housing continues to plague cities throughout the Valley. That includes Mesa, which recently received $6.5 million to help combat the problem. Most of that funding comes from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Michelle Albanese serves as the city’s housing and community development director.
“With the current market, the rents are very high, and it is very challenging for low and moderate income folks to obtain housing so we’re always looking to allocate our funding for developers and nonprofits to partner together to develop affordable housing," she said.
The money will fund various housing and community development programs, activities, including homeless navigation and counseling services.
