Toma: Hobbs' order to ban conversion therapy is illegal

The Arizona House Speaker Ben Toma claims the governor’s  executive order banning the use of public funds for "conversion therapy” is illegal. Toma says it’s overreach and appears to violate parental rights.

Hobbs’ press aide Christian Slater disagrees, saying the order is more specific.

“It's not like an actual ban on conversion therapy. That would have to be statutory … It's just a ban on the state promoting or supporting conversion therapy," Slater said.

The federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration  states that conversion therapy  "is a practice that is not supported by credible evidence and has been disavowed by behavioral health experts and associations.”
