In early May, Arizona House minority leader Andrés Cano announced his intention to retire at the end of this year’s legislative session. On Tuesday, Cano handed in his resignation letter.
He intended on departing at the end of the Legislative session to complete his graduate studies. But with the current session on track to be the longest ever, lawmakers are not expected to return until July 31.
Cano, a Democrat who represented Tucson, is set to attend a one-year program at Harvard beginning on July 11.
In his resignation letter, he said he looks forward to the next chapter in his public service career after completing his schooling.
