How to keep your dog safe during July 4 fireworks

Fireworks are fun for people but frightening for dogs. The American Kennel Club says there are some things owners can do. Owners can keep dogs inside and make a safe place for them.

Kim Powell is with Maricopa County Animal Care and Control. Powell said if you bring your dog outside during a fireworks event, put it on a leash and lock your gates.

“Make sure that your pet is wearing their collar with their ID tag on it for the duration of the day, even maybe for the rest of the week. We don’t know how long people are going to shoot off fireworks for,” said Powell.

Powell says if your dog doesn’t have tags, it should be microchipped.
