Gov. Katie Hobbs issued two new executive orders aimed at school safety last week, saying “a child’s ability to attend a safe and secure school should not depend on their ZIP code.”
The orders require schools to be inspected regularly to make sure they’re meeting minimum standards and to update those standards to 2023 levels to make sure they’re prepared to handle something like an on-campus shooting.
Both of these are things Arizona has already been required to do but, only districts that have had the resources to pay for them have been carrying them out.
Howard Fischer of Capitol Media Services joined The Show to talk more about all of this.
