Leaders from the United States, Mexico and Canada are meeting this week to reflect on the regional trade agreement known as the USMCA. This year’s meeting is taking place in Cancun.
U.S. Trade Rep. Katherine Taijoins her Mexican and Canadian counterparts for the annual USMCA Free Trade Commission meeting — required under the rules of the trade deal implemented in 2020.
The partners are expected to discuss mechanisms to address labor rightsviolations, as well the pact’s implementation and how the three countries can further economic growth and regional competitiveness.
The leaders are not, however, expected to bring up ongoing disputes — including Mexican energy policies and limits on genetically modified corn — which are being tackled in issue-specific consultations.
