Phoenix will consider $250 fee on short-term rentals

The city of Phoenix is looking to charge owners of short-term rental properties a fee for permits and renewals. Officials say the fee would help to offset any administrative costs.

Owners of short-term rentals in Phoenix have been required to register with the city since early 2020, mostly so that primary contact information would be on hand.

Now, Phoenix plans to implement a fee of $250 for those short-term rentals and renewals. A notice of intent was posted to the city’s website last week.

The City Council is expected to take up the issue at a meeting in September, with a vote to follow in October.

Phoenix’s Planning and Development Office says 3,600 short-term rentals are registered with the city, and $900,000 in revenue could be generated from that group alone.
