Former assistant AG seeks $2M in defamation claim against Kris Mayes

A former assistant AG has filed a notice of claim against Attorney General Kris Mayes on allegations of defamation. Jennifer Wright is former head of the office’s Elections Integrity Unit.

The notice of claim centers around alleged “false and defamatory” statements made in the Arizona Republic regarding the terms of Wright’s departure. In that article, an official from Mayes’ administration said Wright had been told to resign or be fired.

But Wright says she stepped down of her own accord, and she asserts that the false statements violated personnel confidentiality laws. As a result, Wright says her professional reputation is tainted, and she is seeking an estimated $2 million in damages.

Mayes’ office told KJZZ News on Monday morning it had no comments on the matter.
