Flagstaff gets input on Baaj Nwaavjo I’tah Kukveni Grand Canyon National Monument

Federal officials will be in Flagstaff next week to discuss the proposal for a new national monument in northern Arizona.

The Bureau of Land Management and the Forest Service are hosting the meeting next Tuesday. They’ll be discussing the management of public lands in the region as well as the proposed Baaj Nwaavjo I’tah Kukveni Grand Canyon National Monument.

Area tribes, members of Congress and local and local officials have supported protecting more than one million acres of land surrounding Grand Canyon National Park from future mining claims by declaring it a national monument.
