Attorneys for failed Republican candidates Kari Lake and Mark Finchem have been sanctioned $122,200 by a federal judge.
The pre-election lawsuit, filed while Lake was running for governor and Finchem for secretary of state, sought to forbid the use of electronic voting machines in the 2022 election and require that all ballots be counted by hand.
U.S. District Judge John Tuchi threw out the case last August, citing a series of factual and legal problems with the lawsuit — specifically, that their claims were little more than speculation and therefore precluded from being heard in federal court.
Tuchi issued an order granting sanctions, requested by Maricopa County, against Lake and Finchem’s attorneys in December. Friday’s ruling details the amount in attorneys fees that must be paid to the county.
