Beginning Aug. 12, callers will have to dial all 10 digits for telephone numbers in the 602 and 623 area codes.
Even local calls will not go through without those first three numbers. Instead, a recording will play telling you to hang up and dial again.
It is part of a 2021 order from the Arizona Corporation Commission that removed boundary restrictions between 480, 602 and 623 numbers.
All those area codes are affected by the change.
