When thinking about feminism, you might think about Gloria Steinem or Lizzo, depending on your generation. Either way, feminism is a movement that is in the midst of change in this post-Roe, post-#MeToo and gender-fluid world.
Nationally, we have a female Vice President and locally Arizona continues to elect above average numbers of women to office. At the same time, there’s the battle over women’s reproductive rights and the ongoing popularity of former President Donald Trump.
There's also the fracturing of the movement itself as some try to make room for trans and nonbinary people — and others feel eclipsed.
There’s a lot to discuss, so The Show sat down with two people who have a lot to say on the topic.
Jodi Ligget is a longtime women’s advocate in Arizona and former leader at Planned Parenthood of Arizona. Ligget is currently head of the Arizona Center for Women’s Advancement.
Mako Fitts Ward is an assistant professor of African American and Women and Gender Studies in the School of Social Transformation at Arizona State University as well as director of the Social Transformation Lab there.
