The Bureau of Land Management oversees more than 245 million acres, most of it in the West.
The agency has begun to use some of that land to help meet the Biden administration’s renewable energy goals.
The BLM has begun the public comment process for two solar projects, one about 14 miles west of Maricopa, and the other about 8 miles north of Gila Bend.
The projects will generate 350 megawatts of electricity and take up more than 2,500 acres of land.
Both will be subject to environmental review and additional public comment.
A virtual public meeting is scheduled for Aug. 2, and the comment period will remain open until early September.
