ADOT wants your clever ideas for traffic safety signs

Don’t hurry, be happy. Buckle up, buttercup.

You may have seen signs like these on freeways throughout the state, and you may have had your own clever idea. ADOT wants to hear it.

The Arizona Department of Transportation reports that 90% of crashes are caused by drivers' decisions, like speeding or aggressive driving. In an effort to decrease these poor decisions, witty traffic safety signs can be seen on freeways across the state.

ADOT is once again opening a contest to the public for a chance to have their own clever message appear on these LED signs.

This is their seventh-annual contest, with last year's contest acquiring over 3,000 submissions. ADOT aims to get as much public engagement as possible, in hopes of increasing conversations in traffic safety.

The department welcomes as many entries as you’d like so long as you follow the guidelines posted on their website. ADOT will select 10 finalists, who will then be left to public to decide the winners.  Submissions will be accepted through July 25 at azdot.gov/safety-message-contest.
