Arizona firefighter accused in multiple northern Arizona arsons

Sheriff’s investigators in northern Arizona have accused an Ash Fork firefighter in a string of arsons and have so far charged him in nine separate counts.

Yavapai and Coconino County sheriff’s department investigators said they obtained a full confession from firefighter Karson Nutter tying him to at least seven arsons in both counties.

A gas station in Ash Fork was burned twice, as well as a local cemetery. In Coconino County, investigators tied Nutter to two abandoned homes that were burned down as well as two wildfires. Eight separate arsons, including four building and four wildfires, all since June 15, 2023, were connected in both counties.

Heidi Howard is a spokeswoman with the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office.

During his confession, Nutter stated his motive in setting these fires ranged from boredom, retaliation against a former employer, chasing a thrill and setting fire to abandoned homes for being quote ugly.

She said he’ll likely face more charges in Coconino County.
