AZ auditors find flaws in IT-project oversight

A division within the Arizona Department of Administration is responsible for overseeing information technology projects in state government.

But a newly released audit found a handful of shortcomings.

The Strategic Enterprise Technology Office can employ nearly 100 people.

But the Arizona Auditor General found failures to monitor state IT projects.

The office reportedly did not always track start and end dates. Information on spending was not always gathered or verified.

The office reportedly did not evaluate project results or question state agency assessments And moves were not made to halt certain IT projects in danger of failing.

The director of the Department of Administration agreed with all audit findings and promised to implement all recommendations.

Auditors plan to follow up in six months.
