You can soon prove work eligibility for E-Verify on a video call

For roughly 15 years, Arizona has required employers to use an electronic system to verify prospective hires are legally allowed to work in the United States.

A major change to another requirement for confirming worker eligibility is set for Aug. 1.

Documentation of employment eligibility, checked via the web-based system called E-Verify, goes with a form called an I-9.

Companies also have a deadline to physically inspect a new hire’s I-9 documentation, such as a Social Security card.

Now, the Homeland Security Department plans to give U.S. businesses more flexibility due to the number of people who work remotely.

Companies in good standing with E-Verify can soon get permission to check a new hire’s green card or work visa over video call.

A revision of the I-9 form is also set to go live.

Employers have until November to change to the new version.
