Tempe creates artificial intelligence ethics policy

The city of Tempe recently enacted a policy that would guide its future use of artificial intelligence. The city commits to a “responsible and ethical use” of AI technology, including transparency, according to the policy.

Stephanie Deitrick is the chief data and analytics officer for the city.

“We include that we really want to be intentional in how we’re using AI and make sure that we’re understanding and stating ahead of time what the scope of our use would be," she said.

Deitrick also said Tempe created an AI governance committee last week to oversee the technology and its impact on the city. That committee plans to meet by early September.
