Racetrack Fire: 405 acres burned, evacuations 30 miles from Prescott

July 30: Low fire activity

The fire is 100% contained, according to officials.

July 24: Lightning sparks fire

Lightning sparked the Racetrack Fire on Sunday afternoon, which has burned over 400 acres near the town of Cherry, about 30 miles east of Prescott.

The fire prompted evacuations as crews work to contain the blaze and keep it away from the town.

“Until we get better containment lines, get some more block around the fire, make it secure so that we are confident that it’s not going to move towards the community, then we will lift the evacuation," said Debbie Maneely with the Prescott National Forest.

Maneely said that while the community remains at risk, the fire is moving away from Cherry. There is currently zero percent containment.
