Western businesses weigh in on proposed BLM recreation rule

A proposed rule by the Bureau of Land Management to bring outdoor recreation on par with other uses has met some opposition from backers of the oil and gas industry.

But it has received support from other businesses.

Last week, a coalition of more than 100 companies that support the rule submitted a letter to the BLM, the Biden administration and members of Congress.

The businesses include brewers, bankers and retailers as well as representatives of renewable energy and outdoor recreation firms.

The letter said that outdoor recreation generates $862 billion in economic output and 4.5 million jobs annually.
