How extreme heat can affect your ability to fly somewhere cooler

The extreme heat the Phoenix area has been experiencing doesn’t just affect those of us who live here — it also affects those who are trying to fly somewhere cooler. An airplane’s ability to take off can be impacted when temperatures rise to the level we’ve seen here over the past several days.

The Show spoke with Dr. Bob Thomas, an assistant professor of Aeronautical Science at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s Daytona Beach campus, about some of the factors pilots and airlines have to consider in this kind of extreme heat.
