How ice contributed to the expansion of Phoenix

When temperatures are as high as they are around the Valley and much of Arizona, it can be really nice to plop some ice cubes into your glass to cool down your favorite drink.

But, that wasn’t always an option. Nor was using ice to keep swelling down, or to skate on.

Amy Brady explores all of this in her book “Ice: From Mixed Drinks to Skating Rinks — a Cool History of a Hot Commodity.” Brady is executive director of Orion Magazine, and spoke with The Show about ice and its history.
