Phoenix's record-breaking heat wave finally ended on Monday when the temperature only hit 108 at Sky Harbor Airport.
From June 30 to July 30, Phoenix was hit with 110+ degree heat every day for 31 days — shattering the record of 18 days set back in 1974. Daytime temperatures in July soared as high as 119 degrees.
July also marked the first time Phoenix, or any major U.S. city, has seen a monthly average temperature above 100 degrees, according to National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration records. The monthly average temperature topped out at 102.7 degrees, with an average high of 114.7 degrees and an average low of 90.8 degrees. The 102.7-degree average is also more than three degrees hotter than the next-hottest month on record for Phoenix, which was August 2020, when temperatures averaged 99.1 degrees.
