Glendale celebrates being a dementia friendly community with free event

Glendale will celebrate its second year of being a dementia friendly community on Saturday, Aug. 12, at its Main Library.

The seventh-largest city in the state hopes to raise awareness about Alzheimer’s and other types of dementia and reduce stigma, while providing resources and information to caregivers and those living with the disease.

The free event, which runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., features several speakers, door prices and an opportunity for attendees to check in on their own brain health.

According to Dementia Friendly America, "dementia friendly communities foster the ability of people living with dementia to remain in community and engage and thrive in day to day living" by supporting them and their caregivers.

There are 10 dementia friendly communities across Arizona.
