Tempe businesses have an opportunity to save money on permits that would allow them to put on live music.
Permits for live music typically cost nearly $1,700, but right now, Tempe is offering them for just $200.
Council Member Joel Navarro said city officials supported the reduction.
“It was unanimously what the council supported. I mean, we had a conversation about it. I brought it up. I talked about the history about how we reduced the fees in the past and basically, you know, everyone was on the same page,” he said.
He said the discount is part of an effort to embrace the live music scene in the city.
“We want to bring this atmosphere of live music back to downtown Tempe. It is here, but we know that we can do a better job at it, and just by letting bar owners and restaurant owners have in this reduction in fees, it’s gonna be overwhelmingly successful in my opinion,” he said.
Navarro said city officials are encouraging businesses to take advantage of the reduction. Businesses have until March of next year to obtain the discount.
