Former Gov. Doug Ducey erected a wall made of shipping containers along several miles of the border in southeastern Arizona. Now that it’s been dismantled, Arizona officials are selling them online.
Arizona earmarked more than $120 million in state funds to assemble the wall along a remote and rugged stretchof U.S. Forest Service land.
It went up illegally and without permission from the federal government. And a lawsuit brought it down months later. Now, those containers are piled up at a prison complex in Tucson.
Megan Rose with the Arizona Department of Administration says the state is selling them.
"We are just trying to get the shipping containers into the hands of people that are interested in having them," Rose said.
Rose says about 115 have been sold already. The rest will be posted to the agency’s website and priced anywhere from $500 to $2,000 a piece, depending on condition and size.
