Mesa businesses offer special promotions, discounts for library cardholders

Mesa has a program to encourage library use and promote small businesses.

Businesses can offer a special promotion or discount for customers who show their library cards. Participating merchants get a window sign highlighting the program, which will be promoted on the library’s website, social media channels and newsletter.

Last year, Mesa launched the monthlong program to coincide with September being National Library Card Sign-Up Month. The library said a survey of 42 small businesses that participated last year revealed, “several gained new customers and all said they would participate again”.

Mesa businesses have until Aug. 22 to apply. Offers cannot include alcoholic beverages, tobacco products, cannabis products containing THC or CBD, illegal substances or products, or weapons.

Retailers who want to add a reading nook or Little Free Library can also request book donations.

Mesa has 92,000 library cardholders.
