Since Roe v. Wade was overturned in the United States a little more than one year ago, the power of abortion regulation has been returned to the states. That means we’re living in a patchwork of access — and Arizona is no exception.
Before the Dobbs decision at the Supreme Court, abortion was legal in Arizona up until viability, usually around 24 weeks. For months after, the law here was up in the air, caught between a near-total ban passed before Arizona was a state and a 15-week ban passed by the Legislature in recent years.
That 15-week ban is in place now, but that could change if the Arizona Supreme Court rules otherwise.
The situation is different in some of our neighboring states — namely, California and New Mexico, where abortion laws are more lax. As a result, abortion clinics there have been inundated.
Adrienne Mansanares is president and CEO of Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains, which covers Colorado, New Mexico, southern Nevada and Wyoming.
Mansanares says they’ve seen an influx of patients needing abortion care, including many from Arizona. She joined The Show to talk about what she's seeing.
