Elvia Díaz and Phil Boas: Ruben Gallego needs to reach beyond his liberal base

We are less than a year away from next year’s primary elections, and one of the marquee races is awaiting some clarity.

One of Arizona’s U.S. Senate seats is up, and the incumbent, independent Kyrsten Sinema has not said whether or not she’ll run for re-election. On the Republican side, Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb has entered the race, but former gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake is also expected to run, and Rep. Ruben Gallego has already declared his candidacy on the Democratic side.

In a new column, Arizona Republic editorial page columnist Phil Boas argues Gallego is running as more of a Washington liberal than an Arizona Democrat — which he thinks is a mistake.

Boas joined The Show to talk about that, along with the Republic’s editorial page editor, Elvia Díaz.
