Phoenix wants to give qualifying neighborhood groups and nonprofits up to $10,000 to host events in city parks.
Activities can include movies and concerts in the park, food truck festivals, farmers markets, and sports and fitness programs. The city calls it "park activation;" it’s meant to encourage residents to use and enjoy parks and ensure they are welcoming and safe places for everyone.
The grants are available to about 90 parks that are in low- to moderate-income areas based on census data. Phoenix set aside half a million dollars from federal stimulus funds to administer and disperse the activation grant program.
More information and applications are available through the Parks Department. Webinars in English and Spanish will be held in early September to explain the process.
