It’s going to be a very hot weekend in metro Phoenix. An excessive heat watch is in effect Saturday through Tuesday.
High temperatures above 110 are expected through Tuesday, and lows are expected to be in the 90s.
"Temperatures are going to get very warm. In fact, we are going to be approaching record territory on at least one or two of those days," said Austin Jamison with the National Weather Service.
But Jamison said this is not a return to the relentless heatwave Phoenix experienced in July.
“We’re not looking at weeks on end of this heat," Jamison said. "Temperatures are going to trend down during the mid and later part of next week. In fact, by Thursday of next week, we’re going for highs that are a little bit below average.”
Jamison said not much monsoon activity is expected over the next several days.
