Rural Arizona has a tough time keeping young residents. A new survey says that can change

Rural communities, both here in Arizona and elsewhere, have historically struggled to keep their young residents in town and bring them back if they’ve left.

A new survey from Local First Arizona aims to reverse that. The group asked young people in a handful of Arizona towns about housing, jobs, education and recreation in their communities. They got more than 400 responses — the majority of which came from high school students.

Kate Stuart is senior programs manager on Local First Arizona’s Rural Development Team, where she oversees workforce development programs.

She joined The Show to talk about the survey and its results.
