Arizona auditors have found the state Motor Vehicle Division failed to make sure contractors gave out documents like IDs and vehicle titles only to people who were allowed to receive them.
In a letter, Republican state Rep. David Cook echoed concerns brought up in the auditors’ report about public safety risks, like unqualified drivers on the road.
“I’m asking for the director of ADOT motor vehicle department to suspend the third party vendors’ ability to issue IDs in Arizona,” Cook said, “until we can get to the bottom of it.”
Cook said the report’s findings are predictable with a third party carrying out government functions.
ADOT has agreed with the report’s findings and intends to implement its recommendations.
