August wasn’t as hot as July, but it was still one of the hottest months ever recorded in Phoenix.
The average temperature at Sky Harbor Airport for the month of August was 98.8 degrees, making it the fourth-hottest month in Phoenix history.
July 2023 was Phoenix's hottest month ever, with an average monthly temperature of 102.7 degrees. The second- and third-hottest months were August 2020, when temperatures averaged 99.1 degrees, and July 2020, which had an average of 98.9 degrees.
According to the National Weather Service, the normal monthly average temperature for August at Sky Harbor is 94.4 degrees.
A few days last month dropped out of triple-digits, but most daytime highs in August reached at least 110 degrees. Phoenix has now seen a total of 52 days this year at or above 110, nearing the record of 53 total days at or above 110 set in 2020.
On average, since 1991, Phoenix has hit 110 degrees for the last time on Aug. 26. The latest 110-degree day ever recorded in Phoenix was Sept. 19, 2010.
