Fountain Hills council approves urban camping ordinance

Fountain Hills Town Council members recently passed a series of ordinances aimed at addressing homelessness.

Officials supported curbing urban camping and roadway pedestrians. Those who violate the ordinances may face misdemeanor charges.

Town Councilmember Allen Skillicorn proposed the laws and cited problems in other communities.

“Big problems, like homelessness in 'The Zone' and Portland, they all started with small problems. Every single one of those situations started with one person putting a tent up on the right-of-way. They started with one person that was aggressively soliciting," said Skillicorn.

According to Skillicorn, a handful of individuals in town are homeless. He also said he wants to see unsheltered people receive the help they need.
