Classes recently started at Arizona’s three public universities. Arizona State University, University of Arizona and Northern Arizona University are reporting record high numbers of in-state students.
This summer, all three universities have announced plans to try to alleviate the state’s shortage of doctors, nurses and other health care providers.
To mark the start of the school year, The Show sat down with Fred DuVal, chair of the Arizona Board of Regents to talk about a variety of issues facing the university system.
The conversation began with the healthcare initiatives ASU and UA are taking part in and how significant DuVal thinks they can be in terms of trying to put a dent in Arizona’s physician and nurse shortage.
