Flagstaff’s minimum wage is increasing by 60 cents an hour starting next year.
It wasn’t all that long ago, in fact just earlier this year, that Republican legislators tried to penalize residents in Flagstaff and Tucson for setting a minimum wage higher than the rest of the state.
Now Flagstaff is moving forward again, this time announcing Wednesday that wages will rise to $17.40 an hour from $16.80.
The bump keeps pay in line with a citizen initiative Flagstaff voters approved in 2016. It uses the Consumer Price Index from August to August to gauge where that minimum should be. The state’s minimum is $13.85.
