The Navajo Nation wants to increase tourism, and it’s looking at some of the most iconic spots in northern Arizona to do so.
Navajo President Buu Nygren met with Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs last week to discuss how to create new businesses, fund job creation and grow the area’s tourism economy.
The Nation sits just outside of what Nygren called the ultimate Southwest road trip: a route that includes the Grand Canyon, Horseshoe Bend, Antelope Canyon, national parks in Utah and, finally, Monument Valley.
These stopping points, he said, bypass Navajo National Monument and the Navajo capital, Window Rock, for example.
Nygren said the tribe will be developing a strategy with Arizona and with tour companies to introduce tourists to these areas.
