Poor mental health is increasing among adolescents, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. To address the stigma, the city of Chandler is hosting its first teen mental-health summit next month.
Much of its design came from teens participating in the city’s Leaders in Training Program.
Kennedy Terrill is the city’s recreation coordinator.
“Talking with some of the teens over the summer, they really expressed that this was a conversation that they felt like was increasingly more important as they encountered more friends that were just going through a hard time and not really able to get connected with the right resources for mental health," she said.
The summit includes workshops led by mental health experts and will be held Oct. 6 at the Chandler Community Center.
