The end of the month doesn’t just mean the end of the federal fiscal year — and the potential for a government shutdown. It also means the end of a pandemic-era program that sent states money for child care funding.
The progressive think tank, the Century Foundation, estimates that will lead to the loss of more than three million spots in child care centers across the country. In Arizona, the group believes nearly 100,000 kids could lose their spots in child care centers, and that more than 1,100 child care programs will close.
Kelley Murphy, interim president and CEO of Children’s Action Alliance, joined The Show to talk more about it and what kinds of impacts she is expecting to see in Arizona when this federal child care money goes away.
