The sports in the Olympics have gone way beyond swimming and track and field in recent decades, and in the 2024 Olympics, another new sport will make it onto the roster: breakdancing.
Breaking, didn’t start out as a sport with rules and points and uniforms. However, these days it’s all about sponsors and worldwide competitions to a lot of young breakers. And, Jorge Edson "House" Magaña isn’t sure that’s entirely a good thing.
Magaña grew up in the breakdance world, and today, he teaches it as a clinical assistant professor in the School of Music, Dance and Theater at Arizona State University. In 1993, he founded the Furious Styles Crew in Maryvale, and he’s watched the evolution of what he calls the artform of breaking.
Now, as the Olympic medals beckon, he told The Show it could be a good thing, but only if it’s done right.
